You Can’t Navigate What You Can’t See

When something important isn’t clear, it's not usually because of a lack of effort or information. It’s that something you need to see is still outside your field of view.

This is where I share what’s helping me see more clearly.

What I’m Seeing Lately. I only email when there’s something I believe is worth your time. Not on a schedule, not to stay top of mind. Unsubscribe anytime.

What We See Determines Where We Go

The way we see ourselves determines who we become.

The way we see our neighbor determines how we treat them.

The way we see God determines what we’ll trust him with.

The way we see our work determines what we give our life to.

The way we see the problem in front of us determines what we try to fix.

The way we see what’s holding us back determines what we spend years working on.

When what we’re seeing is incomplete, distorted, or simply wrong, we often find ourselves somewhere we never wanted to be. Not for lack of effort. We were aiming at something that wasn’t fully visible.

So if we desire to go somewhere else, it starts with seeing something else.

That’s what I help people do.

What Do You Want To See More Clearly?

Give me the raw, unedited version. It doesn’t need to be organized yet. In fact, the mess is often where the useful clues are.

The business. The investment. The money. The job. The marriage. The kids. The next chapter.

How It Works
01 You write it down. A few questions, answered in your own words. Five minutes, and it stays between us.
02 I read it myself. Every one. I’m looking to see whether I can actually help with what you’re wrestling through.
03 I write you back. What I see, whether I think I can help, and what doing so would look like.
What You Leave With
WHAT’S ACTUALLY GOING ON The issue underneath the issue you came in with.
HOW THE PIECES FIT The relationships, patterns, and influences that are shaping the situation.
WHAT FOLLOWS What matters now and how to move in light of what you can see.
I don’t take everything. If it isn’t something I think I can help with, I’ll tell you, and I’ll point you somewhere better if I know of one.

Life becomes a lot easier to navigate once we can see clearly.

I’ve Always Been Wired To Look Closer

When something doesn’t quite make sense, I have a hard time leaving it alone. I dig. I question assumptions. I connect things that don’t always look connected. I keep going until I can see what’s actually going on clearly enough to form a judgment.

Over time, I’ve realized that’s also where I’m often most useful to other people.

I’ve spent most of my adult life as an entrepreneur and investor: building businesses, operating teams, acquiring and developing real estate, investing capital, raising a family, and trying to understand what God is inviting me into.

The domains change. The thing doesn’t.

Sharing The Things That Help Me See More Clearly

Every episode is the same thing at its core. Something that helped me see more clearly, shared in hopes it does the same for you.

Sometimes it’s something I learned. Sometimes it’s an assumption I’m questioning. Sometimes it’s a conversation that changed how I see the whole thing.

Some Things You Can’t See Alone

Seats are limited and I keep them that way on purpose.

Once a week, I sit down with a small group of men and bring the real stuff into the room: decisions, problems, opportunities, work, money, faith, relationships. Things we’re trying to understand well enough to navigate wisely.

The point isn’t advice from the group. It’s better sight. Sometimes another person can see the thing you can’t see from where you’re standing.
